Six days left to comment on draft revised Municipal Planning By-law

The City of Cape Town wants to remind residents and stakeholders to submit their comments on the proposed revised Municipal Planning By-law (MPBL) within the next six days. The deadline for submissions is midnight on Friday, 25 October 2024. In addition, the City is concluding its information meetings on Tuesday, 22 October 2024, with an in-person clarification meeting at the Lentegeur Civic Centre in Mitchells Plain. All are welcome to attend.
The MPBL regulates development and land use in Cape Town. The City published the draft revised MPBL on 22 July 2024 for public comment, and extended the closing date for submissions to 25 October 2024 – all-in-all allowing a 90-day period for submissions.
‘We are now in the final week for submissions. I urge those who still want to comment to do so soonest. Also, we will be hosting our final in-person information meeting in Mitchells Plain on Tuesday. If you want further clarity or have a burning question about the proposed revisions, this is the ideal opportunity to engage the City officials,’ said the City’s Deputy Mayor and Mayoral Committee Member for Spatial Planning, Alderman Eddie Andrews.

The closing date for comments is midnight on Friday, 25 October 2024.
To date, the City has hosted three clarification meetings – an in-person meeting at the Council Chambers, and another two online meetings to accommodate those who cannot travel after hours.
‘These meetings were well-attended, which confirms the huge interest in the proposed revisions and additions to the MPBL, and the fact that our residents are eager to participate in this process. We are looking forward to our last information sharing meeting on Tuesday where residents can get further clarification on the potential impact these amendments may have on their neighbourhoods, and development in Cape Town in general,’ said Alderman Andrews.
Once the public participation period has closed on 25 October 2024, City officials will collate all of the comments received, and assess these to see how the MPBL can be further refined, taking into account all of the input that has been submitted during the commenting period.
